AYAM CEMANI is the Indonesian word means BLACK CHICKEN their
renowned as much for the mystical powers
in Asian myths.The breed originated from
CENTRAL JAVA in the island of
JAVA, one number of the thousand islands of
INDONESIA.
Uniquely the birds are completely black: Their feathers
,skin and bone, legs and toe nails, beak and tongue, comb and wattles are black. Cut open an Ayam
Cemani and you’ll find their black meat and dark colour organs also.
With an extraordinary look Ayam Cemani known as one of the
most beautiful and expensive chickens in the world. With the price nearly US $
5000, a chicken so spectacular and exotic that it is referred to as the
LAMBORGHINI OF POULTRY.
Ayam Cemani are friendly birds, and the hens lay about 60
cream-colored eggs their first year. A typical laying cycle lasts for about 20
to 30 eggs, then the hen will stop laying for three to six months. The eggs are
unusually large in proportion to the size of the hen’s body.
This exotic chicken was first imported into Europe in 1998 by Dutch breeder Jan Steverink. Currently stocks are kept in the Netherland,Slovakia,Germany until Czech Republic.There are several varieties of the Ayam Cemani including the Swedish Black Chicken thought that Ayam Cemani may also earlier have been brought to Europe by Dutch seamen who had numerous contacts in both Africa and Asia.
